Transition: Now that you know a little about the history of forensics I am now going to talk about some of the different types of sciences that are involved I. Second main point. The medical examiner who is usually a physician specializing in pathology is the key figure in an investigation, but there are a lot of other sciences involved when it comes to catching a criminal or determining foul play. A. There are forensic odontologists. 1. They are used when fingerprints or other identification is not available. 1. They examine and characterize the teeth of unidentified bodies. A. There are forensic anthropologists. 1. Anthopology is the study of human beings. 1. They are trained to determine the sex, height, weight, and ethnic group of a deceased person from an incomplete body. A. There is a forensic toxocologists. 1. Toxicology is the study of poisons, including drugs. 1. They are calleed in when whenever drugs or poison are involved in a crime. 1. They detect these substances by examining a persons body fluids, tissues, and organ. A. There are a lot of other sciences used in forensics. 1. Ballistics which is the study of the dynamics of projectiles and the functioning of firearms. 1. Forensic accountants who examine documents and detect fraud and financial discrepancies. 1. Forensic psychologists who profile criminals. Transition: There is a host of sciences that are involved in forensics and it would be impossible for me to cover them all but now I hope u have a little understanding of some of them. Nowadays in just about any case you can think of forensic science was used in some way to either exonerate someone or to convict someone. It is applied in the field many different ways. A.
