...n Mama does not go to New York City to see Florence, instead writes to her, “Keep Trying” with some money Florence had asked for. Now in my version of “Florence” Mama does make it to New York City to see her daughter Florence. Mama also does not rip up the address that Mrs. Cartier had given her. She keeps it and brings it with her to New York City to help her daughter. Eventually Florence gets into a hit play and makes tons of money. Although the racial plot within the story is still shown through the interaction between the two, Mama was not offended by Mrs. Cartier’s innocent words, but rather took her words into perspective. Character definitely affects of the plot of the story. Marge, is the other daughter, and wants Florence to come back because she doesn’t think Florence will make it through in New York City by herself. When she find outs that Florence has made a ton of money, she is proved wrong. The Porter is right about Florence, because he respected Florence for what she was doing, being famous in a white privileged world at the time. In time, Florence makes enough money and brings he...
