The boy, Jim, immediately leaves and puts the lightning rod on his roof. Afterwards the boys go to the library where the other boy’s, father, Charles works as a janitor. Charles is older then most fathers who have boys Wills age. They spend some time there looking for books. Soon the boys go home to their own house. That night as they tried to sleep there was strange noises, it was the fall carnival coming to town. Which was very unusual since, carnivals don’t come to town this time of the year. When the boys woke the next morning they headed straight for the carnival. The film had a several scenes that were different from the book, For example, the film begins with the two boys staying late at school with their teacher. From here the two boys go home where they run into the salesman. He tries to talk to Jim’s father about selling him a lightning rod, however Jim’s father left to Africa and hasn’t been around for awhile. Jim ends up taking money from his mother and buying the rod. He doesn’t put the rod on his roof until later that night. The book mainly focuses on two boys Jim Nightshade and Will Halloway. Jim and Will are best friends, who live right next door to each other and they are practically inseparable. Will is fair with blond white hair, Jim dark featured, with dark hair. There relationship is always equal never trying to out do each other, for example when they run together neither wanted to win “Will runs because running is its own excuse. Jim runs because something’s up ahead of him. Yet, strangely, they do run together” (Bradbury 19). To them their friendship was more important than winning.
