...ed. Scully calms Swede's nerves by giving him some whisky, after Swede takes a swig of the whisky he actually turns into what he considers a westerner. After the drink Swede still has the fear of witnessing or being involved with a murder but he is a lot more aggressive. When Swede starts playing cards he begins to “board whack“ and actually accuses Johnnie of cheating. Playing the card game with the other hotel members and Johnnie we a more gentle way for Swede to let out his aggression in a harmless way. But when Johnnie started cheating, the reality of crime and gambling set in and the cheating returned the game back to a stereotypical game you would see in an old western movie with guns, outlaws, and high tempers. Johnnie wanted to fight after Swede accused him of cheating so they fought and Johnnie lost and Swede went to a local bar. After when the fight he decided to shoot off his mouth a little and Swede actually gets in a fight with a professional gambler and dies. Swede was experiencing a high on power and liberation when he ordered the other men in the bar to drink with him. When he is stabbed, the Swede returns to his earlier disposition as a victim of the West. The way fear comes into play...
