Another major reason is the people’s ignorance towards diversity. The America that exists today has organized laws to ensure that everyone is equal no matter race, job, etc. And in Fahrenheit 451 Beatty tried to explain the same thing to Montag. “We must all be alike. Not everyone is born free and equal but everyone made equal.” In both societies they want all their people to even up. But towards different issues though. The Fahrenheit 451 made their people equal by censoring them and making everyone have the same amount of knowledge so no one will know more than the others. And in America’s society today, people are free to be smarter but still we are suggesting everyone to be equal no matter skin color, race, religion, etc. But this ignorance is good in a way though. Also another reason is the people’s ignorance towards learning. In Fahrenheit 451 Beatty says to Montag. “ A book is a loaded gun next door. Burn it. Take the shot from the weapon. Breach the man’s mind. He was trying to explain the danger of books to Montag. The issue in Fahrenheit 451 is a form of a censorship. But, it was to the extreme. Censorship exist in the society today, but in a different degree. It hasn’t quite gotten to the extreme, but in time it may elevate that far. Some items in today’s society are to please the general public, while certain books have been completely removed from schools, libraries, and even homes due to its content and also the beliefs of some people. And also, another reason why the two societies are so much alike is the people’s ignorance toward time. People had and still in need to be busy due to the hesitation on being bored.
