Failure To Reduce Pollution
...killing our animals that live there all their lives. We are putting those animals to extinction. If we continue to pollute our ocean, lakes, rivers and other water sources, then we do not have any clean water left in the world. Another pollution that killed our environment is Acid rain. In Minnesota, at 140 lakes all the fishes was killed by acid rain. In Norway, their salmon and trout was decrease because the acid rain has stopped them from reproducing. Acid rain also has a huge affect on plant life. The acid rain killed the plant rooted and cause the crop to stop growing anymore. When “The acid rain, falling on the plants damages the waxy layer on the leaves and makes the plant vulnerable to diseases” (“Acid rain's effect on plants and wildlife”, 1). However if the plant were to live it would have trouble surviving through a storm and the wind because it is weak. Another outcome of pollution is Global Warming. “Global warming may be the most devastating environmental problem human beings have created, and the toughest to solve. For starters, our society is largely powered by the fossil fuels that cause global warming” (“Global Warming”, 1). Indeed, true to the quote, global warming is one of our main issues right now. It effects the animal migrate time and would cause an over population if all animal migrate at the same time. It would also affect the temperature for trees and plants. Furthermore, scientists believe that since we pollute too much it harms our ozone layer and it cause “…diminished crop yields for foods such as peas, beans, squash and soybeans. Phytoplankton, the tiny one celled ocean plants that are a food staple for squid, fish, seals, penguins and whales, also are vulnerable” (“OZONE”, 1). Additionally, “Cold-weather trees such as the sugar maple could vanish entirely from Pennsylvania and New Jersey”, (“ Global Warming”, 1) due to the change in the weather and the temperature. It would also effect the time for disease to spread and the reproduction of insects and bugs. The global warming would cause, “Hotter temperatures would lead to more summertime smog” (Avril, 1). In addition, hot weather can cause heat sickness to the people. Since Global Warming changes the weather temperature, flood will be more often. These will destroy homes and cause serious spending money to replace the damages. Without a doubt pollution consist of many different substances that affect our world in many ways. Even human being are greatly harm by pollution. To some extent we are the victims and creators of our own pollution. We polluted the world; we pay the prices. When human get in contact with pollution material like organic materials which industrial uses, we get “ eye an nose problems” (Pollution in Environment, 780). However in the long term, the pollution puncture our ozone layer, “Scientists estimate that every one percent decrease in the ozone layer increases ultraviolet light intensity at the earth's surface by two percent. Known effects of ultraviolet exposure include greater incidence of skin cancer and eye” (OZONE, 1). Which is true. Today, more people are getting skin cancer because they been outside too much where the ultraviolet are high. Statistic shows that “By the year 2000, one in every six Americans is expected to develop some form of skin cancer in his or her lifetime”(“Skin Cancer Prevention Tips”, 1). People that have a higher risk are older people because their body is weak and is slow to fight off toxic substances; younger children, who also body system is still not that strong; and people whole have respiratory problem because, pollution can increase there problem more. Not only pollution can harm you when you outside in the ultraviolet light, but it can also harm you when you are in your own home. Data shows that, “ Ninety four percent (94%) of all respiratory ailments are caused by polluted air according to the American Medical Association, which also reported that one-third of our national health bill is for causes directly attributable to indoor air pollution”(“ Indoor Pollution”, 1). Indoor pollution can be as harmful as outside pollution. For example, people smoke in the house can cause pollution too. The substances that that rise from the tobacco will cause the smoker and other person in the same room to have “burning eyes, nose, and throat irritation to cancer, bronchitis, severe asthma, and a decrease in lung function”(“Indoor Air Pollution”, 1). The Environmental Protection Agency shows that, “…human exposure to air pollutants indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times, and occasion more than 100 times, higher than outdoor levels” (“Indoor Pollution”, 1). This is due to the reason that most spend a lot of their time inside the house instead of outside, so their rate of getting harm is higher than outside rate. Another pollution that can find found in your house is biological pollutant, which consists of: “bacteria, viruses, fungi, pollen, dust mites and other insects, animal dander (tiny scales from hair, feathers, or skin) and ...
