Expression of Violence In Lyrics
...should not use music as a scapegoat to the crimes committed in America. Over the past few years, there have been murders committed on, and by rap stars, as a result of this, America quickly turns on the violent content of the lyrics as to why this occurred. The recent murders of rappers Tupac Shakur (a.k.a. 2pac), Christopher Wallace (a.k.a. Notorious BIG), and Freaky Tah put a bigger emphasis onto an East Coast, West Coast grudge that started to take place in the hip hop industry. These murders do not have anything to do with the music they put out. Everyone has enemies, and the enemies of these have picked this way of settling their problems. If none of these people were famous, would anyone care about what happened? Critics said that this would tear down the way people acted, and more violence would occur because of it. I strongly disagree. Hip-hop music is written in violent context because the artists who are putting out these lyrics live in areas where all they see are drugs, and murder. That is the environment around them and has a big effect on the person they are and how they view life. The music they write is an expression of their feelings and the events that have changed their lives such as a close friend, or relative being killed.
