...that the right to die is a given right as the right to life. People who believe in the Right to Die are not alone. The Hemlock Society, which advocates the right to die for terminally ill patients claims to have 28,000 members in forty chapters nationwide. This societies basic belief is · People should not have to suffer needlessly when they die. · The hopelessly ill have the right to choose quick, gentle, certain death in the presence of their loves ones. · Physicians should be allowed to help a hopelessly ill patient achieve a peaceful, dignified death if that's what their patient wants. · Maintaining control over how we die is just as important as maintaining control over how we live. · No government has the right to tell us how we die. · Depriving someone of choice and dignity in the final chapters of life is morally and ethically wrong. One of the main reasons why euthanasia is in question is the question “Who should choose?” If the patient is comatose or is unable to make rational judgments for themselves, should the doctor or a family member be permitted to make the final decision? If family members were allowed to make the decision Right to Life advocates claim, a family member could get away with the murder of a relative just because that person can't make up their own mind. Every person should have a “Living Will” which simply states that the person wishes death if they are fatally injured or become terminally ill without a chance of survival. A “Living Will” would permit people to make their own decisions about life and death without a possibility of being misunderstood. I don’t know why certain people insist on keeping individuals who are suffering alive, but I do know that they have no right to say to a person whether or not they have the right to die. In my eyes that person has the right to their own life. Freedom is also having the ability to make choices in your own life. You should be the one that decides what happens to you in the long run. These choices should include the ability to decide the end of one’s own life. The government was setup to govern, not to rule with total and absolute power.
