Of the many skeletal remains of Native Americans and Hawaiians 64% of the skeletal remains have not been studied at all. This brings the question, Why do you need the skeletons if you don’t do anything with them? NAGPRA was created because of these factors and many more (such as pot hunters). There are many provisions of NAGPRA. One of which NAGPRA protects the burial remains and all of the burial objects placed in the grave for funeral purposes. NAGPRA states that descendants have the right to claim custody of the deceased.
