This is true to life because all people experience a great deal of sorrow and anger when a loved one passes on and Tim is showing this right now. Lastly, Tim’s speech shows he is true to life like on page eighty one when Tim says to Betsy, “How come Mr. Heron didn’t tell me about Sam this morning?” This shows Tim is true to life because he tries to change the subject off a letter, but says something that gets him into more trouble. Many real people sometimes try to divert attention from one thing, but actually put more attention on it by accident. Tim is a true to life character because of his thoughts, feelings, and speech. Tim’s motivations throughout the story are very clear keeping him a believable character in the story. Tim’s first goal is to take Mr. Heron’s letter to Fairfield even after Tim’s father says no. On page seventy one Tim says, “If only I could find a way to sneak off for a day.” This shows Tim is going against his father’s word. Many kids go against what their parents say and that is what Tim is doing. Tim’s next goal is to get Doctor Hobart to bandage a patriot officer. Tim runs to Hobart’s house and sees British behead a servant boy named Ned. On page 145 Tim says, “I didn’t feel much like being a Tory anymore.” Even after Tim sees such a horrible thing happen, he still runs to Dr. Hobart’s house and gets him for the patriot officer. This shows he is true to life because he never forgets his task. The last thing Tim tries to accomplish is saving his brother’s life. On page 198 Tim tells General Putnam his story and then says, “Sir, may I see my brother?” This shows Tim is true to life because during this time of such crisis he tries to save his brother like any other normal person. Tim also tries to see his brother because he misses him and this is a very true to life thing to do. Tim’s actions throughout the story are very clear keeping him a believable character in the novel. In order to be a realistic character Tim must exhibit changes throughout the story in how he feels about his life. In the beginning Tim has a good attitude and is proud of Sam for joining the war.
