In “Essay on Man” there are many themes and ideas about life, man’s place in nature, science, and unknown purposes. Pope uses optimism to bring about his ideas. He believes in other worlds but none of them are better than the one we are living in. Thro’ worlds unnumber’d tho’ the God be known, / ‘Tis ours to trace him only in our own. / He, who through vast immensity can pierce, / See worlds on worlds compose one universe, / Observe how system into system runs, / What other planets circle other sun.
