Eros, the Greek god of Love

...deities born into the world. Hesiod claims that Eros emerged from Chaos, and that no one, divine or mortal, could resist his spell of desire. However there is another side to the birth of Eros. Some say he was born from Erebus and Nyx. Another legend says that he was the son of Iris and Zephyrus. but in later mythology Eros is the offspring of Aphrodite and Ares. As Aphrodite’s son, its said that Eros lost a bit of his power and status, and became more of a companion and accomplice to her. This could be one explanation why over the centuries his image is changed from a handsome young man to a chubby and mischievous looking boy who wore armor and had wings. From the early legend of Eros it is said that he was responsible for the joining of Uranus Gaia, and from their union were born many offspring. It was also written that Eros hatched our race. Although he was one of the oldest gods, he was a latecomer to Greek religion. He was worshiped in many regions of Greece. In Athens the forth day of every month was sacred to Eros.
