...hink I would feel better, if my friends hadn't given up. These days, I am getting cynical because of society's cynical eyes, but I swear that I'll help make a new constitution for the states and fight for integration. The next generation will not experience segregation and be cynical if I fight for the rights of blacks. In Hee Lee Today is one of the most important days for me. I couldn't believe it myself, but I did it. I have graduated from Central High School as the first African-American student to do so. I just remembered the first day of high school. People surrounded me and laughed at me even though I did nothing wrong. After I entered high school, a lot of racism was waiting for me. I had to bear it and even fight against it. Those days were very hard for me, but I also learned a lot of important things. I hope my experiences will help make progress for other black students. Well, from now I will work for the benefit of our society. Mina Yamamoto When I first entered this school, around me there was a large mob and soldiers. Everybody shouted to protest my entering school. Even though the troops were soldiers, they didn't help me. The whole mob of white people denied me as a member of society because of my skin color. Even though they tried to segregate me , I endured until today. Today, I graduated from this school. My bitter experiences were ended. Now I think, what were my school days for? Were these days beneficial for me? Yes. They were beneficial not only for me, but for the progress of American society. I want to keep trying my best for other black people. Yuko Wakita Today, our graduation ceremony was held. I do not know how I can explain my feelings. I also graduated like the other students, but only I was treated in a different way. No one called out my name; no one clapped. Nevertheless, I was sure that I was happy to graduate. Now, society is progressing against segregation, but I can not feel it at all. I wonder when I will be able to get any real benefits from society. I hope that no one will have such an experience like I had from now on.
