...’s view of education can be summarized in three different aspects, these are: A) The Influence of physical environment felt through personal experience. B) The internal instinct to grow in certain directions depending on the child’s nature C) The modification of the child’s nature by means of teaching with a view to special ends. Now for an explanation on the first point, Rousseau means that a child comes with fixed capacities with which the educator must deal. The educator must accept that child as he is (i.e. smart or stupid, alert or dull) and then await the results of his teaching efforts. The second point refers to education as a process of adaptation of the environment, a child goes through a learning process of adjustment by experiencing the effect of its surroundings on himself, for example, if he/she goes around poorly dressed in freezing weather, he/she will experience cold. The third point of view Rousseau emphasizes is the necessity of adult direction, Rousseau sees education as a means of preparing the child for society. This leads us to think that Rousseau finds all three factors as defining education, buy he makes a sharp distinction between these 3 factors of education. So what is my view on enlightenment and how it has affected our society today? Well, I think that the enlightenment was a big break through for our human kind because this gave us a chance to decide on our society’s future. I think education allows us to deal with situations in a proper way. Unlike the age of monarchy around the 17th and 18th century, if a king or queen had a problem with you then they could get you slaughtered in a snap of the fingers. Should education be free? Well there are two ways you can look at this question. Firstly, I think that education should be free because knowledge is a big asset we have which differentiates the right from the wrong and if we don’t know what is right and what is wrong then we will get corrupt and act like the people at the 15th or 16th centuries.
