This is when Sadie and Mr. Jackson start fighting a lot. They become more distant towards each other. This shows that the religious differences between Kevin and Sadie puts a strain on relationships and family relationships. Sadie thinks about her relationship with Kevin and doesn’t know if there is much point going out with him because it causes so much trouble and conflict between friends and family. “But if me going out with Kevin causes so much trouble, is it worth it?” Sadie The Starling Tree also experiences family tension. Fawn has a large roll in her household. She cooks nearly every night for her brother and dad. Her mum works late so she is never home. Her dad is very ill so it is hard for her to ask for help from him and her brother is hardly ever home. She feel’s that she is responsible for her brother’s actions and blames herself for him being that way.
