Crate motors can range from $2,000 to all the way up to $20,000, while a rebuild could cost $200 to about $7,000; this all depends on what you want, though. Crate motors with just stock horsepower and stock torque would cost around two grand. The prime choice with around 500 horsepower and 510 foot pounds of torque will cost $3,599. With just a few added things that must add for it to run would put the total price at about four grand. To rebuild a motor would compare in price, but would not be balanced and blueprinted, also would not compare in quality. The price to do all of the machine work would run around 1,200. To buy the quality parts that I would desire will run around $2,500. So the total for a rebuild would cost $3,700. With a tight schedule and also wanting to do most of the labor myself, I need to base my decision on this as well. With a rebuild I would have to tear the motor apart. Then take the parts to the machine shop also, spend time on the internet and also looking through magazines for parts.
