...age of 20 my sister bought a four-plex for $250,000 in Buena Park that was abandoned and boarded up. She was the only one who saw a future in this piece of work. A city official came to give her a final inspection before being able to accept tenants and asked my sister to talk to the owner not knowing, she was the owner. She said, “I am the owner, what can I help you with.” He looked at her and gave her a chuckle then said; “You are the owner, well how old are you.” My sister said right back with her witty voice, “I did not know there was an age limit for owning property.” If only you could have seen the look on this city officials face. She has inspired me to stand up for my beliefs and defend myself. She always tells me, “Barbara your dreams are jumbled in your mind, just put them on paper.” She has also taught me to be an individual, and not to conform myself to others expectations. Second, my sister is loving. My sister is not only currently pregnant but also a working mother of two, a full-time student and a devoted wife. I always hear stories about her falling asleep on the couch waiting for her husband to come home from work only to spend minutes of his time before both are too tired to talk. Not only with her husband and her kids does she show her great love but also to the rest of her family and friends. I can always expect a call or a visit once a day wondering, What’s going on? Also Elizabeth is the one that makes sure that the whole family gets together on Sunday for dinner or just to talk. She has made me see that love is the essence of all relationships may it be marriage, friendship or family. Third, my sister is smart. My sister is not only book smart but she is also street smart.
