This is a turning point in the novel where Emma begins to mature. Emma does not want to think about marriage because before this she tells herself and others that she will never marry. But now she has changed her mind because now she is starting to fall in love. As Emma matures more, she begins to realize what love really is, and why people get married. When Emma meets Frank Churchill, she is immediately stricken with the love bug, but she knows that Frank Churchill is not married, but has someone in mind. Emma’s self-center ness begins to disappear and the way she talks to other is much different than the way she talked to them before. Now when she talks to others, she speaks with more self-confidence and intelligence. Emma is no longer self-centered, because she is in love. Emma begins to fall in love with Frank Churchill. Frank Churchill leaves town for a while and Emma is desperately waiting to her news from him. She reads a letter stating that Frank Churchill Is now married but his wife is very Ill. When Mrs. Churchill dies from her illness, Emma begins to realize that she is not in love with Frank Churchill but in fact is in love with Mr. Knightly who points out her faults. Mr. Knightly is the only character that points out Emma’s flaws, because he loves her, but Emma does not realize this. Mr. Knightly has some feelings for her because he states that “I do not know what I could imagine, but I confess that I have seldom seen a face or figure more pleasing to me than hers, but I am only a friend.” (p. ) Emma has mostly thought of Mr. Knightly as a very rude man because he is always pointing out her flaws, but turns out to be...
