She has won many awards; she was a woman’s rights activist and she has been awarded the Officer of the Order of Canada in 1971 and elected to Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame in 1983. She directed the productions of Hawker Hurricane aircrafts during World War II. Her staff consisted of 4,500 people and they produced more than 2,000 aircraft during the war. After the war she became a part of the U.N. International Civil Aviation Organization, she helped draft designs for the production of commercial planes. Elizabeth was very involved in women’s organizations and in the suffrage movement. She also liked to be recognized not only by her engineering skill, but also by her role in the women’s rights movement.
