...aking a huge impact on children’s future Cons:  Not a profession where you will make a lot of money  Takes time planning, grading paper, etc.  A lot of schooling/college Facts:  2.64 million classrooms in 1999  Average income of $39,347 in 1999 There are so many reasons why I want to become an elementary school teacher and the reasons above are only a few. Teachers have such a big impact on children’s, teen’s, and even adult’s lives. For my internship, I went to the field site of Clardy Elementary School in Mrs. Ruch’s fifth grade classroom. I shadowed a teacher because I am interested in becoming an elementary teacher. Specific work that I am involved in at my field site are grading papers, putting up and down bulletin boards, making copies of worksheets, miscellaneous paperwork, working with students who were absent for or don’t understand an assignment and assisting science groups with recording weather data from weather stations outside. The first day at my field site was on Tuesday the Twenty- forth of September. I would stay at my field site longer if it were an option. Having fun, learning, and being responsible are three important and positive things at my field site. There are no negative things of my field site. When you enter my field site (Clardy Elementary) you first pass the school cafeteria and main office on the left. Down a long hallway with art- filled walls is another small hallway in which all of the fifth grade classrooms are located. The second classroom on the right side is Mrs. Ruch’s classroom. The medium sized room is comfortable, friendly, and very welcoming. The colorful bulletin board next to the warmth of the large windows brings a fun and exciting feeling to the room. Above the rose colored cabinets are stuffed animals and decorations. Along the countertops lay assignment folders in which the students put completed assignments.
