Some of the things the normal Egyptian family had among their house were not pottery but a low tool. Actually everyone used this tool, even the pharaoh use it. They were made of wood, had leather or woven rush seats, and had three or four legs. Also among the kitchens one of the most used or common things to find was a cylindrical, or a bakery. It was made of clay and used for cooking. The family’s diet mostly consisted of bread unleavened or leavened which is if it has yeast or not. They had an uncommon goat or meat here and there and some vegetables along with corn. The major part of their lives depended on the Nile River. If the Nile River did not drop silt every year and flood the Egyptians would not have survived. The Nile provided their life. They irrigated and damned the river for food and to water their crops. Although most Egyptians weren’t that rich and couldn’t afford much, they went to much trouble to have elaborate jewelry. During this time, both men and women wore jewelry such as earrings, bracelets, anklets, rings, and beaded necklaces. They used their jewelry mixed with minerals including jasper, amethyst, garnet, onyx, turquoise, and lapis lazuli, as well as gold, silver, copper and shells. Since they were superstitious the Egyptians often carried amulets for good luck or fortune. Egyptians also wore make-up. It was a matter of personal hygiene and health. They used these make-ups as sunblockers or revitalizers to help the skin in the hot baking sun. They used cosmetics such as green and black eye paint. The green pigmented crème, malachite, was made from copper. The black paint, kohl, was made from lead or soot. Kohl was usually stored in a small pot that had a flat bottom, wide rim, tiny mouth and a flat, disk-shaped lid. The Egyptians believed in many gods. They believed that every occurrence that happened to them was by the gods. They believed that the flooding of the Nile’s banks, the unusual harshness of the surroundings desert, and the daily cycle of the sun’s appearance in the east, gradual movement across the sky, and eventual disappearance in the west, all had to do with gods and their ways. They imagined that the world was flat and it was a big flat slab of clay floating in the ocean. The forces were described as divine actions of the creator or their gods. In order to understand the ways of their religion you have to see that Egypt was once separated and then joined. When this happened it combined the cultures and beliefs into one.
