Effectiveness in Life
...rding to Covey, “effective management is putting first things first” (148). In my life, it is extremely hard for me to prioritize by putting first things first. I feel as if everything should be put first and no one thing is more important. Sigler often felt that way too, but overtime it did catch up to her. A life-threatening illness and losing sight of her values was the road that consumed her life. Her mistake of not prioritizing will help me be more effective because I will “organize and execute around priorities” (Covey 149). Jamie-Lynn’s priorities were not prioritized. By that I mean, she was not prioritizing her duties. She was not keeping “production and production capacity in balance by focusing on the important, but not the urgent” (Covey 154). I also came to the realization of how the personality ethic affects our culture. The personality ethic contains superficial ideas, which our country has made into beliefs or values. Jamie-Lynn’s whole life was turned-upside down because of the harsh paradigms our country has adopted. Her self-image began to consume her. She became obsessed with her looks and how others saw her. She was starving herself to death. Covey stated an important idea when he described the personality ethic.
