Edwards Syndrome
...3 chromosomes, which are numbered 1-22, and the 23rd pair is composed of the sex chromosomes, X and Y. Each parent gives one set of 23 chromosomes . With the Edwards syndrome, a baby inherits three, rather then inheriting two copies of chromosome 18. This syndrome happens in about 1 in every 3,000 infant, this syndrome effects girls more then boys. Tharapel (2002) had studied and done research and found out that babies with Edwards Syndrome generally do not live long. Most children die within the first year of birth. Less then 2 months is the average natural life for 50% of the babies and 90-95% die prior to there first birthday. (Tharapel, PhD, 2002) The physical properties of Edwards Syndrome are that most children appear fragile and weak. There ears are misshapen and low-set and their mouth and jaw are tiny. The head is oddly small and the back of the head is outstanding. Sometimes the children have clenched fists, and the index finger, partly cover the other fingers. Also the child may have a cleft lip or cleft palate. Their feet may maybe clubfeet and toes maybe fused or webbed.
