E-mail conspiracy

...y were sending love e-mails through the works network. The works guidelines stated that there was to be no inter-office relationships. These people figured that if they sent their affections through e-mail that no one could catch them in the act. Well what became of this case was that they were both fired from their job because of the relationship. The two workers then sued the company because they felt that the company invaded their privacy when they read the email. The case ended up in the companies favor because once an e-mail is sent through the works server and using the works hardware, it is their property. They can do whatever they please with the e-mail once it passes through their equipment. When people use their e-mail they usually have to put a password in to log on to the server that the mail is on. People tend to bypass this option and turn the mail client to remember the password. Once someone does that, then anyone can access the mail from that terminal. The problem with this is that anyone can also write offensive mails to the boss, to a co-worker, or even leak company secrets to a competing company. People need to be careful what they leave on and how they are protecting their e-mail. If someone gets a hold of your user name and password they can cause some damage. Another way to make sure that email going through the server is being used for the right purpose is to have software on the server that checks the email quickly to see if anything bad is written in it. If it does find something offensive in the e-mail it could then be sent back to the user with a simple "User Unknown" block or "Server Not Responding". This way the user thinks it's the servers fault and not his own. Simple ways that people could be protected and so will the company. If I were a senior company officer and had to set the e-mail guidelines, I would not have e-mail even on our system. Companies do not realize that you do not NEED e-mail at work. They are there to do work, not to e-mail friends.
