In order for the company to successfully meet there legal, financial, and moral requirements, there has to exist a dependable, legitimate legal system, an adequate infrastructure and a well-functioning government help reinforce these positive effects, while their absence prevents or hinders them. Adhering to a set of moral standards for a multinational company can bring about positive results. A study of corporate international responsibility (environmental management, corporate social responsibility, sustainability etc.) and the financial impact it has was conducted by Curtis Verschoor, a Quill Research Professor at DePaul's School of Accountancy in Chicago . Professor Verschoor analyzed a section of the annual reports of 500 of the largest U.S. public companies for his study. He determined whether companies emphasized ethics in the section and then compared company performance rankings using information published by Fortune Magazine, Business Week and the Stern Stewart Performance 1000 report. He also looked at whether the companies were members of the Ethics Officer Association. His findings show those companies in the sample with an explicit commitment to doing business ethically have produced profit/turnover ratios at 18% higher than those without a commitment. A follow up study in the England found that that there is strong evidence to indicate that larger UK companies with codes of ethics, e.g. those who are explicit about business ethics, out perform in financial and other indicators those companies who say they do not have a code .
