The aim of all students is to be respected by all. “What you make it is what you get out of it”. No one can teach you a skill or belief unless you are willing to learn it. Anyone can learn anything if they’re really determined to. Quite simply it’s all up to you. You must find your own answers to questions and analyse your performance to eliminate all your weaknesses. Be honest with yourself! Examples of questions that you may consider asking yourself are: · What rank do I want to achieve in the Martial Arts? · Is maintaining my abilities and skills more important then my rank? · How many times per week do I want to train? · Will I train at home and how much? · Should I do different styles at the same time? · Would I be willing to open a Dojo? · How important is Martial Arts to me? Planning long term goals takes discipline, but to achieve those goals, takes greater discipline. I strongly believe the phrase “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail”. RESPECT, HONESTY AND LOYALTY Respect, Honesty and Loyalty are three essential elements a student should learn from and five back to their Martial arts club. However, there are all different kinds of people when it comes to awarding others with the honourable traits of respect honesty and loyalty: - There are students who will naturally give all three. - Then there are those who just need extra time. - There are students who like to receive, but not give. - Finally there are those who will give some but not all. A question I always ask myself is “What is Honesty without a Loyalty?” Students may show a certain amount of respect to their teachers and fellow students but this does not mean that they are Honest and Loyal. However, we should always believe in others until they prove themselves unworthy. FITNESS AND DEVELOPMENT Two more factors in Martial Arts are “techniques” and “Fitness”.
