Dreams
... many times have you dreamt of flying? Possibly many. Reality is harsh. There are consequences, some more severe than others. We dream and embrace ourselves in things that please us when we dream. In a way, I believe it is God’s way of rewarding us. When I come to think about it, I sometimes wake up from dreams and feel very good inside and tend to have a good day after that. Nightmares, on the other hand, are quite different; sometimes when things are troubling in reality, our dreams are negatively affected and we have nightmares. Some people might argue that it isn’t very healthy to day-dream, and escape from reality just for a short period of time. They believe that unrealistic thoughts might wrap you up and consume you, turning you into either a schizophrenic or a madman. Yet, I must oppose, for I believe it is quiet nourishing to dream. Dreaming and imagining are two very similar things, for to day-dream you need an imagination. Dreaming and imagining can be described as the energy that keeps people going, because with dreams comes hope, ambition and goals. William Dement once said “dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives”. When the word “insane” is mentioned, people normally have a negative attitude, yet we do not realize that everyone likes to go insane for a while. There is not one person that would like to abide with rules their entire life and never dream or hope for a better life. To me, I believe that dreaming is therapy.
