Dr. Richard Feynman

... the electron theory is only a theory that has not definitely proven to be true. He gives the analogous situation that when someone looks for a brick’s center, they can never find it because every time a brick breaks open, 2 more objects are created with two different centers. Therefore, Feynman tells the group that they should have thought about the brick theory before they even came close to talking about whether an electron is an essential object or not. The scientific method is something that most scientists use as a template to follow while doing an experiment. Feynman, however, simply does the experiment and thinks about the scientific method subconsciously later on. During Feynman’s college years, he would always come to a certain restaurant for lunch. One day, he struck up a conversation with a painter. He believed the painter to have a ‘real man’s’ job, so, anything the painter said, he didn’t second guess, because he respected him. As the conversation goes on, the painter says that he can use red and white paint to make yellow paint. Although Feynman totally disagrees with this, he only says, “Are you sure you don’t mean pink??” because he didn’t want to offend this ‘real man.’ Feynman walks down to the 5 & 10 and buys red and white paint. As Feynman watched the painter try to make yellow, the painter said something about adding a little tube of yellow to the mixture, this is when Feynman knew the painter was wrong about his hypothesis. A normal scientist would follow the scientific method, yet, Feynman just thought about it after the experiment occurred. When Feynman first heard the painter say that he could make yellow paint with red and white, this acted as step number 1 in the scientific method: “The Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena.” When Feynman thought about what he could do to disprove the painter, this was...
