President Muffely shows his immaturity in his conversation with Premier Kissoff “I am as sorry as you are, Dimitri! Don’t say that you’re more sorry than I am, because I am capable of being just as sorry as you are.” Once General Ripper commanded that an official war was declared, president authority was overlooked. Only the president should have the right to close off all phone lines and declare war. General Ripper takes the role of the president when he says “Let me worry about that Major, just make sure all lines are cut off.” Also, when Colonel Puntrich has a problem getting in touch with communications at the base, he calls General Schmuck. It’s ironic that the name of the General is Schmuck because by definition, “schmuck” means annoying foolish person. Dr. Strangelove satirizes the military. The American people expect the leaders of the department that protects their lives to be rational and level headed, but Dr. Strangelove portrays the exact opposite. Dr. Strangelove was an ex-Nazi scientist. This alone says that he shouldn’t be in command of our military weapons, but he is.
