Physical and mental changes are things we cannot control as we age. If a person is not aware of his or her surroundings when driving, it puts them at greater risk to be involved in an accident. The ability for senior citizens to act or react to something is often going to become less enhanced as they age. Someone may have a lot of driving experience, but if that person is aging and losing their abilities, experience is not going to help them become a better driver. Of course, not all elders experience these impairments. The degree to which these impairments are experienced varies greatly among individuals. There is now a law stating that senior citizens must go in and take a driver’s test to renew their license instead of just getting another one through the mail. Senior citizens can cause accidents just because they are not paying attention to the road. By taking a driving test each time you have to renew your license, the accident rate of elderly drivers would decrease. If their was a law stating that all drivers take a simple driving test every eight years, every other time you renew your license, the roads would be a lot safer.
