...eye contact with me I thought he was lying when he was actually telling the truth. I was always taught that it was respectful to make eye contact with the person you are talking to. However, when I make eye contact with Steve he thinks its rather rude. He also claimed that it made him uncomfortable. Tannen states in the sixth paragraph on page 211 that, “Bonds between boys cab be as intense as girls’, but they are based less on talking, more on doing things together.” From my personal experience I totally agree with this statement to every extent. For example, when Steve and I would go on double dates my best friend and I would hold a steady conversation throughout the whole night. While on the other hand, Steve and his friend are always together but that night they just listened to us talk rather than making their own conversation. After seeing how our different style of talking was hurting our relationship we tried to adapt and compromise to each others styles. I must say it was rather hard to alter the way I conversed, but I cared about him, so I tried. After having this experience with Steve I thought all boys were the same. Was this so wrong to think?
