...asting meal that is also very healthy, low in fat and a meal that fills my personal requirements according to the Canadian food guide. Milk products, vegetables and fruits, and grain products are three groups that I do not even come close to filling my daily Canadian food guide requirements. On the other hand, I eat more servings in the meat and alternatives section of the food guide than are recommended by the Canadian food guide. Based on this part of the assignment I can easily say that I am not meeting my nutritional requirements and this is affecting my overall health. The first guideline from the handout emphasizing the intake of a variety of foods, is one that I believe I come close to accomplishing, but still fall short in. I never eat breakfast and usually eat a foot-long roast beef sub for lunch everyday. If I do snack at night, I never have anything healthy to eat and I usually eat chocolate because I can honestly say I am addicted to it. The second guideline, stating that cereals, grains, vegetables and fruits are to be emphasized when making meal choices, is a guideline I am nowhere near achieving. I enjoy eating grain products and am surprised that my three day intake was so low compared to the suggested servings. I was not surprised when the average of the three day intake showed that my fruits and vegetables intake was at the very least two servings below the minimum listed on the Canadian food guide. The third food guideline is where I totally failed. Every type of food consumed over the three day period was high in fat, unhealthy and prepared in the most unhealthy ways. While I can choose better foods to eat, I cannot change the way they are prepared because I live in East Tache residence and eat at the residence food hall. Since the food in residence is prepared for seven hundred people, the cooks aren’t fairly worried about the level of healthy food they provide.
