As the time approached the Sergeant walked outside and heard Grossbart cal to the others “Ten-hut!” Grossbart stepped forward and said Thank you sir. Grossbart would try and convince the Sergeant to come along and join the service but the Sergeant would decline. One day the Sergeant find himself in the Chapel where the Jewish services where being held. That night the rabbi commented on the food that was being served at boot camp. The food served was not in the belief of the Jewish personnel. The rabbi wish he could do something about it but made it clear that there was nothing he could do. The rabbi insisted that if anyone had any ideas for them to come talk to him in private. Grossbart whispered to the Sergeant and asked him how high he could go to make the change for the meals for the Jewish personnel. The Sergeant told him to make an appointment to see the chaplain. Grossbart told him he was going to make one to talk to him in private. Grossbart felt that the Jewish personnel were getting pushed around and that a change is going to come. The Sergeant turned to Grossbart and told him this Army not summer camp. A week later the Sergeant had got word that he had to meet in the Captain’s office. When the Sergeant got there he was on the phone, he cupped one hand over the mouth piece. “Who the hell is Grossbart?” He is a trainee said the Sergeant. Grossbart mother had called the congressman about the food that was being served. The congressman had called the General and told him that they are not feeding the troops. The Sergeant tried to explain that Grossbart was strange and that he was a very orthodox Jew, and was only allowed to eat certain foods. Congressman claims that Grossbart throws up every time he eats. The Sergeant explains that the Jewish parents are more protective over their children. Sergeant feels that Grossbart is to be blame and that they could straighten it out. The Captain gets off the phone and demand that they go look for Grossbart. Grossbart was down on the range practicing his shooting. The Sergeant called to Grossbart that the Captain wanted to see him. The Captain told him that his mother had wrote the congressman and told him that the Army was not feeding the troops. Grossbart told the Captain that it was his father that had wrote the Representative of Franconi and that his religion forbids him to eat certain foods. Grossbart explained to the Captain that he heard the rabbi talking about and he told them what to do. Grossbart look at the Sergeant but the Sergeant told him to look at the Captain and answer his questions. The Captain asked Grossbart if he wanted out and Grossbart replied no sir.
