...ndence wasn’t what they were first seeking at the start but in 1776 the leaders of the 13 colonies met up in Philadelphia, known as the Second Continental Congress. It was then where they formed a committee to produce the “Declaration of Independence”, drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson's most enduring monument. Here, Jefferson expressed the heart and mind of the American people as words and written solid document, though not new, as this ideal has been previously expressed by individuals named John Locke and some other philosophers, what Jefferson did was to summarize these philosophy and set forth a list of accusation against King George III in order to justify as well as to announce before the world the ideals of the country. The Declaration clearly explains the reason, for which the 13 colonies decided to separate from the United Kingdom and form their own free nation. The philosophy behind it was also clearly explained, that the strength of the government comes from the people themselves. By doing so, the power of the government could be and will be controlled and used to fulfill the citizens’ needs and dreams, the Declaration will also guarantee and protect the human rights of the people, and enforcing it so.
