As long as England held title to the land, Parliament had the power to do whatever they felt necessary to govern the land and subjects. If the American colonists did not approve of their condescendence from England, they were free to move from English land and live elsewhere. While living in the colonies, it was understood that they were subject to English law. Americans were mistaken in thinking that they could live on England’s land without paying taxes. If the colonists didn’t want to pay taxes, then England shouldn’t have provided services, such as supplying British military protection.
