In San Francisco he was not performing to his expectations as he was sent to the triple A Giants for rehabilitation and came back for the last 10 games and put up a horrible 0.77 batting average. It was by far the worst effort by Strawberry in his career. In 1995 Darryl was on the move again back to New York but this time it was the New York Yankees. Very early in the 95 season Strawberry was sent to Tampa Bay where the Yankees minor league is located. The next year on the Yankees he played more games and was beginning to emerge again as he hit 19 home runs with a batting average of .275. But just when he thinks he's back on the top of the world again in 1997 he almost missed the whole season with another injury this time it was a knee injury. Once again you would think his baseball career was over it was not he came back in 1998 as one of the most powerful Yankee hitters as he hit 27 home runs and was a large part of the Yankee success as he led them to the post season. Unfortunely , his success would not last as he was shockingly dignosed with colon cancer which ended his post season run. It was another depressing year for Strawberry. He surprisingly did not give up on baseball as he became one of the great comeback stories in sports as he returned to the Yankees in 99, but his condition reduced him to play only 2 games in the outfield without embarrassing himself. He has four children name Darryl JR (17), Diamond(14) Jordan(8) ,and Jade(7). He married a lady named Charisse in 1993 and is currently divorced to her as he was charged for assault and served 6 months in jail. The last two years of Strawberry's career were the worst years of his life.
