... Jim didn’t see eye-to-eye right away. Maureen is a snobby, know-it-all ballerina whose mother always pushes her to be the best ballerina. Jim, on the other hand, is a nice, down-to-earth, medical student who is immediately attracted to Maureen for her natural beauty. He doesn’t give up pursuing Maureen, which ultimately pays off because Maureen is eventually drawn to his personality and adventurous spirit. Both Maureen and Jim’s, and Derek and Sara’s, relationships will have obstacles along the way. The interracial relationship between Sara and Derek brings forth conflict between Sara and Nikki (Derek’s black ex-girlfriend). Sara is blind to the conflict until there is a fight between the two of them, where Nikki makes it known that Sara is competing for not only Derek, but also for the right to be an interracial couple. Sara only sees it as competing for Derek, whose love she wins. In “Center Stage”, The conflict is between Maureen, and Eva, and Jodi. Eva is a great ballerina with a poor attitude, and Jodi is gorgeous, wide-eyed ballet enthusiast who tries her hardest, but is told her technique is off and her body is not ideal for ballet. The three girls overcome some obstacles together and eventually they realize what they truly want. Eva finally decides to drop her attitude and dances from her heart. Eva becomes friends with Maureen and Maureen gives Eva her part in the ballet. She dances brilliantly and ends up with the opportunity to join the ballet academy, while the Maureen and Jodi wrestle with the role of dance in their lives. Jodi dances her heart out for another company and gets the lead role while Maureendecides she no longer wants ballet to be a part of her life. As you can see, conflict can have rewarding results. Personal issues had a great effect on all the main characters of both movies. A personal tragedy that Sara went through made her feel she can no longer do what she loved best, dancing. Derek pursues Sara’s feelings and she ends up crying to Derek and telling him why she no longer dances. Sara feels guilty that her mother was killed in a car accident while she was driving to see Sara’s audition for Julliard (a well-known ballet academy). Derek convinces her the accident wasn’t her fault, and that her mother would not want Sara to quit doing something that she loves. Sara decides to follow her dream by trying out for Julliard once more. Derek then final...
