Yesterday, in southern Afghanistan, 4 armed men on motorcycles jumped a U.S. military reconnaissance patrol. 2 American men were killed while another was injured. 3 Afghan men were also killed. 1,000 Afghan troops along with U.S. special operations soldiers backed by air support attacked 100 Taliban fighters in southern Uruzgan province. At least 15 Taliban soldiers were reported killed. Afghan authorities accuse Taliban fugitives and al-Quaida allies. Taliban loyalists said training camps were established in the Afghan mountains and anti-American forces had united. They planned attacks on the U.S. once the war with Iraq began. One Special Forces soldier and an airman were killed and another wounded when their convoy of less than 20 people was jumped during a reconnaissance patrol near Geresk. This brings the number of U.S. forces killed in Afghanistan up to 18. Army spokesman Col. Roger King said that there is an attempt to find out who attacked the convoy.
