For my review of this story I will be discussing characterization, and irony which takes place in this short story. O’Connor does a brilliant and in depth job with characterization in this story. One of the main characters in the story Joy (who later in life changed her name to Hulga as an act of rebellion) is shown to us by O’Connor as a highly educated thirty three year old that acts as a rebellious teenager against her mother.
