Virginia who had the largest population, had 21 representatives in the Electoral College while Massachusetts had 16, 15 were from Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina both had 12, Maryland with 10, Connecticut had 9 representatives, 8 representatives were from South Carolina, New Jersey had 7, New Hampshire had 6, Georgia, Kentucky, Vermont, and Rhode Island all had 4 representatives, and with the least population and amount of representatives were Tennessee and Delaware with 3 representatives each.Thomas Jefferson won the election of 1800 by a close majority. This was surprising due to the supposed gentleman’s agreement they had was meant to break any tie that may have occurred.
