Confederate Flag
...ay the Klu Klux Klan and many other hate groups use the flag. So hanging the flag in the south is like saying they represent the segregation of the civil right and the slavery of the civil war or that they support the hate groups like the Klan. Not allowing states to hang this flag could help eliminate some racism, because of the hate symbol the flag represents today. Hanging the flag up just pisses a lot people off. Yes I do agree that it means a lot to the southerners but they symbol of hate shows through more than anything else. Secondly the Confederate flag is an enemy flag of the United States. Even though it represents the south it is still a flag of the enemy. Although the civil war was Americans vs. Americans the south succeeded from the United States, making themselves the Confederate States or America, causing a war that kept or nation together. I would almost consider that treason, because it represents a separation in our nation. The flag being hung in the capitol building of a state house is like saying they are against the United States just like they were in the 1850’s. They flag does not represent freedom, which our nation is so proud to have. Without winning the Civil War the United States would not be what it is today, and hanging the flag is like saying our county should be different than what it has come to be. It should not be hung for these reasons. It is so controversial to us as a nation. The Civil War was not just fought over slavery and segregation; it was the difference between federalism and state rights. The north wanted to keep the nation together, and the south wanted to separate so they could have more state rights. If the flag just represented states rights and the good old south it would not be a problem. Many southerners believe this is all that it represents to them. I guess this could be the only respectable thing about the flag, but its not so it is not a reasonable argument to keep the flag hanging. Whenev...
