Computers have allowed for students and business people alike to easily prepare visually appealing presentations via PowerPoint and easily create and edit their essays or reports in Microsoft Word a time consuming and frustrating task if done with a pen and paper or typewriter. Although some people argue that computers create a lazy society, one that does not go to the grocery store to shop anymore or calculate simple arithmetic by hand, by allowing us to easily accomplish these tedious time consuming tasks, computers give us more time and more means of challenging ourselves. For example, during the sniper attacks of this fall, shopping online could have been a life saving alternative to leaving one’s home and going to the local shopping center. I personally shopped online this holiday season as I was able to have my gifts delivered to my parent’s home in upstate NY instead of having to buy them here in DC and lugging them to the airport, through security and so forth. Computers are an important tool for learning. The array of information on the World Wide Web far surpasses any library. Researchers may access almost any highly regarded journal or newspaper in the world because of the Internet and World Wide Web. For example, the last 20 plus page paper that I wrote for class was on the impact of the digital revolution on the music industry. Due to the freshness of the topic, aside from my Entertainment Law textbook, all of my research was accomplished online.
