...ught me to appreciate the things I am fortunate enough to have. I originally thought that I would be standing in front of a group of kids reciting basic math, much like a teacher would. It didn’t take long for me to realize that it was nothing like I had expected. We were each paired up with one student, and we were much more than just a tutor. We were their friend, their mentor, and their teacher. Aside from helping them with their history homework, we played games with them and talked to them. We gave them the attention that they weren’t getting from their parents and teachers. The children were not the only ones who learned from this experience.
