What does humankind need to begin a broadcast of radio signals from Earth into the Universe, if we want to be heard at least several thousands light years away? It is not known where the other civilizations are located, therefore it would be logical to broadcast our signals in all directions at the same time. For this option there are two major questions: 1) where do we get enough power for such broadcast?; 2) How and where do we build a transmission antenna? Actually these two problems are interrelated. Experts say (WHO???) that there are 5*1013 Watts of energy used annually on the Earth by humans. All used energy is transformed into a heat and is radiated back into space. Amazingly it will require 2*1017 Watts of energy to broadcast signals from Earth so that they can be received 10 light years away, considering transmission in all directions! It is 1000 times more energy than all humanity uses each year. Moreover, energy that comes to Earth from the sun is only 1017 Watts, and it is well known that it is not possible for humankind to radiate more energy than we receive.
