Iacocca’s main strategy solely involved his skill in communication. He summed it up in saying, “ The ability to communicate is everything.” He believed that the primary definition of communication is the ability to motivate, to get people to act and react, and to work as a team to accomplish the goals of the company. Delegating is a huge factor in my managerial skills. I believe that being able to delegate within creates self-confidence within the workgroup. Iacocca states that the combination of good use of time and communication is the ability to delegate. I like to give my employees responsibility at all levels in letting them feel as if their decisions are a result of our increased productivity. This in turn increases motivation and they are more confident in what they are doing. Iacocca states that good communication shows that management cares and is open to the ideas of one’s subordinates. Even though I like to delegate, I am very cautious as to the decisions that are made on behalf of my company. This may be because I have not mastered all of the skills of good communication such as listening. I must improve on this skill in order to be more effective, but as Iacocca says, practice is the way to bettering this. Another technique that Iacocca used was the quarterly review. This in turn gave employees input into the planning process and allowed them to set their own set of priorities and goals. As a manager, one must evaluate these goals and priorities correctly in order to correctly assess the skills and achievement of the employee. Proper communication is crucial when using this technique. Good communication can lead to productivity, but bad communication may be destructive.
