This relates to the Triangle trade. The Triangle trade was a trade between the colonies, Africa and the West Indies, trading molasses, slaves and rum. Therefore the geography of the New England colonies greatly affected what jobs people had and the shape of the economy. The Middle Colonies also known as New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware were all greatly influenced by the geography around them also. Take for instance the good fertile soil. The people of the middle colonies had good growing seasons. In fact, in the middle colonies, they started the “cash Crop” industry. Growing mass amounts of a plant or plants for that matter, and selling off almost all of it, but keeping enough for your family. This greatly enhanced the middle colonies economy. The always unpredictable weather, cold winters and hot summers were also major geographical features. They greatly effected how much money was pulled in that season. Due to this the crops could grow, but they faced many hard weather and temperature changes sometimes. The water around the middle colonies and the location of the middle colonies was a huge factor for the economy. The location of the middle colonies was directly between the New England and Southern colonies. The factor here helped a lot with trade/exports and imports and trade regulation. The factor of being near oceans and the Great Lakes helped them transport items to other colonies and countries, which was a humongous help in making many for the economy. Therefore, the geography and climate of the Middle Colonies greatly affected the people, profit and shape of the economy. The Southern Colonies also known as Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia are the last group of colonies and also were influenced by the geography around them. Take for instance the extremely fertile soil. This factor is a must for a cash crop industry. The farmers all used this to their advantage to grow many cash crops, such as tobacco, rice and indigo. These cash crops brought in a lot of money to the Southern Colonies and eventually were grown in such mass quantities that they brought on plantations.
