Cloning
...ially be used to completely reverse the effects of heart attacks. These new and innovative advances in reconstructive surgery will allow doctors to repair or replace bone, fat, connective tissues, cartilage all through the process of cloning; the possibilities are virtually endless. Down’s syndrome, cystic fibrosis, liver disease, kidney failure, Tay-Sachs disease and leukemia could all be eliminated through defective gene elimination; cancer could be cured as well. A point closely associated with the thought of using cloning for medical research is that of cloning people for spare parts. Many people believe this would be a good idea because everything that is necessary would be available, such as bone marrow, or a kidney in case of a need fir a transplant. There are innumerable applications of cloning technology in the medical profession. There are more reasons to clone human beings than just the medical breakthroughs of curing infertility, eliminating disease and extending human life spans. How about saving endangered species of animals and plants. Imagine all of the species of life on this planet that may never have become extinct if we were able to clone. Never again would we be forced to stand by idly, watching as a great animal becomes little more than a fossil. The farming and livestock industries have already taken advantage of cloning technology to improve the quality as well as the quantity of their production. By genetically breeding cattle, the beef industry has all but eliminated certain bacterial diseases, which pose a danger to beef consumers. Almost all of the vegetables we eat and plants we grow in our gardens are hybrids. A hybrid is a combination of two or more different genetic structures, which when spliced, create a superior structure. And in the future with the help of cloning and other advanced technology, we would be able to clone plants and animals that give us more production, and hunger and starvation would be no longer a problem. Besides all these benefits humans can acquire from cloning, there are many beliefs’s, values and moral standards associated with cloning. Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Is this an issue of right and wrong? To clone or not to clone is not the question. Some believe that cloning for any reason would be an unethical and immoral thing to do. A common misconception of cloning is that it is the instantaneous creation of a fully grown adult from the cells of the individual. They think that the clone would have no soul, no mind, no feelings, or no emotion of their own. People think that by cloning, we are taking the creation of life into our hands, giving us all the control over something never before in our power, and in essence “playing God”. Cloning the whole human body there is a risk of hormonal mutation, multiple miscarriages, and possibly developmental deformities in the child, and no one knows how many attempts it will take to develop a perfect human.
