Classical civilization (Africa, Greece, China, India) meeting.
...ee in a lot of the concepts of Buddhism such as complete purity and unselfishness. Religion in classical Greece was based on mythology. They believed that there were many gods, such as Zeus, Hermes and Atlas. Each God represented something and did his or her own job to help the world. These beliefs were very different from the other religions and therefore each civilization would have trouble understanding other religions explaining their religion. China had several different beliefs in that time, but Buddhism was a large part of the religion in ancient China. There were also the schools of thought, the Confucian school and Legalism. Confucius came up with important philosophies such as “man was good by nature”. Legalism was the opposite. They believed humans are selfish by nature and should be disciplined. China and India would agree on many points of religion, but India did not have schools of thought. Because of this, they would digress on issues such as philosophy. Were these ancient nations to meet, women’s rights would be a constant topic of debate. Each peoples had their own ideas on how women should be treated and what their rights were. The ancient civilization of China held the belief that women should be subdued in the home, they should be housewives and not express themselves. Greece had similar customs. In Greece, women were almost at the bottom of the social pyramid, directly above slaves. Women associated and worked with slaves and this caused them to be treated like slaves. On the contrary, women in Africa held positions of power. They were highly valued as wives, with their own worth. They did not have the same rights as men of course but they were not treated badly. India, too, had women in positions of power and as the heads of the household. Buddhism in India encouraged women to work and be involved in society. Buddhism said that everyone was equal and therefore women gained equal rights. India was originally a matriarchal society were women were valued and considered the creator, but it gradually developed into a patriarchal society but women in India were still held in high esteem. Government is literally what governs or rules a country. Government is the core of a nation; it provides laws, security, help and structure for the country. Each classical civilization had its own type of government, radically different from the others. Government in China was basically power by force. Various warlords and dynasties ruled China at one time or another and controlled the population with soldiers. Some dynasties were much larger than others and had empowers who were the governing force. They made all the laws for the land, but it was hard to control the hundreds of small villages that an emperor ruled. The government of Africa was somewhat similar but it had some very different aspects. In ancient Africa, there was usually one very powerful kingdom and various other small kingdoms. The key to power was wealth, and kingdoms such as Ghana, Mali, and Song hay rose and fell. Africa had women in positions of high authority in the government of these kingdoms and nations, unlike the other civilizations. Like China, Africa had a countless number of small towns and villages, which were not truly under any government. Important parts of rule in Africa were griots. Griots helped solved disputes between tribes, villages and nations. Griots were people who memorized the past as it was passed down from their fathers and recounted it when necessary. Ancient India had one king ruling over the whole land. The king made laws for the land and ...
