...active citizen pays his/her taxes, votes in elections, obeys the laws, and plays an active role in their own community. As citizens we have the right to be informed about all issues surrounding our nation, and is our duty to hold an opinion which effects the society as a whole. With this information, a citizen should uphold his/her responsibilities by voting to influence and support ones own ideas in our national government. This also reflects on the elected officials in their jobs as our representatives. Citizens have the responsibility to help their communities when in times of need, or to help (or take care of it) when a local issue is jeopardizing ones surrounding environment. Every citizen has the duty to follow and respect the laws given to us by the government of the United States, this is so the American environment can be made safe for all the citizens of our Country. A passive citizens is practically the exact opposite of an active citizen (with regards to ones priorities and beliefs). Passive citizens do not play an active part in their communities. The issues surrounding a passive citizen’s community doesn’t concern them one bit. An active citizen has the same principles when it comes to voting and obeying the laws. Being a passive citizen can be as little as littering on the sidewalk, or as big as not abiding by the laws or paying taxes. If no one bothered to vote; then there wouldn’t be anyone in our whole entire national government who could represent the citizens (of the United States’) beliefs.
