Many people use this as a reason for Columbus not being a hero, but Columbus didn’t set sail in 1492 with the aspiration of bringing diseases with him and infecting the natives with them, that is an absurd notion. Columbus also took a hit because he took some of the natives and put them into slavery. At this point in history it was common practice to own slaves. The founding fathers of America owned slaves as well as a large number of people. When a group of people took over another group it would be the common practice to put those people in slavery.
